Glowworms or Tunnels? One could guess, but in reality these are blood vessels. The primary nutritional network in our body is composed of the tubes and organs in various shapes and sizes. Here you will not see them interconnected because the tissue thickness is as small as 50 µm (which means 10^-6 or 0,000001 m). This causes cross-sections through the vessels that look like jelly worms.

This artwork is derived from an immunohistology image of a mouse brain section. The blood vessels have been stained yellow using an antibody against Collagen type IV, which is a protein found in the basement membrane of the vessels.
